True local pubs are a plenty in Bishophill where Menagerie House is situated, but this is the closest you will find and is a much-loved favourite ten seconds from your door, nestled on St Martin’s Lane. It has a super quiz night on Thursdays (booking essential), great Sunday lunch and children and dogs are always welcome.
This pub is a five minute walk from the property and it is York’s first community co-operative pub. It has a quaint beer garden and lots of real ales on offer, and is both family and dog friendly.
Super relaxed, great food, good vegan choices. Dogs are welcome outside in the back (use back entrance if coming with pooch).
Amazing food, lovely staff, no pre-booking though.
A holiday must in our opinion. Prepare to queue and ask to be seated at street level (not basement)! The rosti is our firm favourite and raspberry lemonade. Ask to see the cake trolley. A children's menu is available.
Black Wheat Club is an independent modern bistro. It is one of the few places where you can get absolutely delicious food from breakfast through to dinner service. It gives off intimate Parisienne vibes and the service is excellent.
A city centre brewery with a wide selection of beers produced in-house and it serves Asian fusion street food alongside. Great for groups.

Lots of street food options available in converted storage containers. It's got something for everyone with the benefit of being able to sit outside all year round. Spacious and family friendly.
A good place to have lunch and cake. It serves Polish cuisine and a wide selection of Polish beers.
Unpretentious Portuguese small plates in an intimate, friendly and laid back setting. Something for everyone on the menu.
Moroccan small plates, as well as large which are packed with flavour. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too and a good wine selection. Sit in the courtyard if the weather is fine!
There are a wide range of street food options at the back of the market with plenty of seating available.
Great food for special occasions. Situated just outside of the Bar Walls off the popular Bishopthorpe Road. Much loved by locals and friendly staff.
Luxury surrounds from the listed building to the grounds which back onto the Bar Walls. The food is good but you can equally opt to enjoy a glass of wine in the beautiful gardens.
This is a great place to have a drink and take in the views from the terrace over the Ouse, but the food is good here too. Be warned - they have a no moving tables policy - so choose your table wisely!
Just next to York's Museum Gardens, this place is pure luxury for its exceptional food and has a deserved Michelin Star. Booking is a must unless you have been lucky enough to secure a cancellation.
